Hello Parents of Year 1 and 2 students,
Welcome to the new school year at Main Arm Upper. I hope you have all had a wonderful holiday.
Our class will be called the Dragonflies this year. We had lots of interesting suggestions for different insect names and had ourselves a little democratic vote. Dragonflies was the most popular choice by a very narrow margin.
The class is settling in beautifully, the children are used to working together as we joined classes for many activities last year. We welcome three new students, Louis and Tara, to Year 1 and Leila, to Year 2. Our Main Arm students are using their getting along skills to make the new students feel welcome and our new students have been showing tremendous confidence. Three lovely additions to our Main Arm family.
During the first three weeks of Term 1 all classes are involved in the Learning How To Learn Program. Here we explore mindfulness and how our brain works to help us learn and grow. We establish behaviour and learning expectations, classroom routines etc. We introduce the You Can Do It Foundations and what it means to be successful. We get involved in STEM (science, technology, engineering, maths) challenges, which helps us to identify some of the different feeling and thoughts we have when faced with a challenge and complete some initial assessment tasks, which allow us to plan for differentiated learning within the classroom.
In the coming weeks we will be having our parent meetings to discuss the plans and organisation for 2018 and
our welcome bbq will be at Brunswick Heads. I look forward to seeing you there for a fun and relaxed evening.
The blog will be posted each fortnight with the school newsletter.
If you have any questions or concerns at any time feel free to pop in and see me or send a note in with your child.
I am looking forward to a happy and successful year with your children and thank you in advance for your support and co-operation
cheers, Gae Jansen
