Throughout this term, the Scorpions have been engaging with a unit that explores whether Ned Kelly was a hero or a villain. After reading Carol Wilkinson’s Black Snake, the students are divided on their issue. This week, we held a series of debates where students had to defend their points of view with evidence. We held a lively debate using formal debating protocols and we selected our strongest debaters to compete against The Pocket school tomorrow. Although the class has had lots of practice at writing persuasive essays, the debate was a different format that required a new approach. Well done to everyone for adapting quickly and for the confidence with which you approached the task.
Today we also had the team from Field of Mars join us for a video conference on invertebrates. The students collected insects and spiders from our forest, studied their features, sketched them and then used scratch foam to create prints. We look forward to seeing how they turn out!
